Bobs Furniture joining hands with Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters

Bobs Furniture Charitable Foundation presented a check for $10,000 to Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, the state’s premier youth mentoring organization. The funds, generated by the retailer's charity golf tournament, will be used to move children off Nutmeg's 5-county Connecticut waiting list and into productive, life-affirming match relationships with caring adult role models.

“None of us would be where we are today without the support of others in our lives,” said Cathy Poulin, Director of Public Relations for Bob’s Discount Furniture. “That’s why, with our primary focus being on children, we are happy to be in a position to utilize our resources to give back by supporting Nutmeg and other organizations that help the communities around us.”

“Bob’s Discount Furniture has developed a powerful presence wherever it does business,” said Darlene Roberts, Director of Institutional Advancement at Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters. “Not only is it a hugely successful furniture retailer, but it has also become known as a reliably generous corporate citizen. We are extremely grateful that Bob’s has been, and continues to be, a strong supporter of our mission of helping children in need.”

With its central office in Manchester, CT, Bob’s Discount Furniture has more than 43 retail store locations throughout New England, New Jersey, Maryland, New York and Virginia. It has built strong brand awareness and customer loyalty through its unique shopping environment, customer service, commitment, everyday low prices, and its vast selection of quality furniture that surpasses the “discount” expectations of shoppers.

Through the Bob’s Discount Furniture Charitable Foundation, Bob’s and its staff support  hundreds of nonprofit organizations with sponsorships and charitable contributions, and every year the company donates more than $1.5 million to charities. Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters is an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the longest established youth mentoring organization in the world – founded in 1904.  It helps its clients, children from single-parent and no-parent homes, avoid criminal activity and reach their highest potential.  Nutmeg does this by creating and maintaining one-on-one relationships between children in need and professionally-screened, inspirational adult volunteers. Based in Hartford, Nutmeg was founded in 1966. It is funded, in part, by United Way organizations. It serves thousands of youngsters in 111 of the state’s 169 municipalities.
